Traffic Council school trials in light of COVID

On 6/25/20, the Newton Traffic Council voted 5-0 to hold the following item for a trial:

TC115-20: JASON SOBEL, DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION OPERATIONS, requesting the following to respond to safety concerns and changing conditions brought on by the Covid-19 Pandemic: Traffic Council shall be allowed to vote to allow long- term trials on any public street or parking area located within 1,500 feet of a school. These temporary trials may include modifications to the traffic flow, parking, turning restrictions and/or pavement markings, and are to be approved by the Commissioner of Public Works in consultation with the Director of the Planning Department and the Chief of the Newton Police Department. These changes are temporary in nature and would revert to original conditions unless Traffic Council subsequently votes to make these temporary conditions permanent. At any time, the Police Department may end any Traffic Council trial. (Wards 1-8)

 Shift Tiger Permit Parking off of Lowell Street between Hull Street and Elm Road, and move this Tiger Permit Parking to Austin Street municipal parking lot.
 Create a northbound pick-up/drop-off zone on Lowell Ave between Hull Street and Bolton Road.
 Shift the Double-Yellow Center Line on Lowell Ave 7 ft to the east, just north of Bolton Road.
 Create a southbound pick-up/drop-off zone on Lowell Ave between Bolton Road and Elm Road
