Adam Peller reports the city is doing sidewalk work on Willow Street in Newton Centre. The Willow and Centre St intersection is wide, irregular, and hazardous for all users.
Lou Taverna replied that the sidewalk work and repaving will stop before the intersection to allow a future project (and funding) to address this problem.
Transportation agrees that striping of Willow Street should be discussed at Complete Streets Working Group.
Since the redesign of station 3, the engines now use Willow Street for returning to the station. I wonder whether that has different requirements on geometry?
Along the newly finished sidewalks there is metered parking adjacent to the salon. But the crossing itself is unnecessarily wide. A bump out on both sides could significantly shorten the crossing without impeding emergency response vehicles and also t-up the intersection to make for a safer intersection — the stop sign is typically treated like a merge today.
