Prince at the Carriage Road

After Prince St crosses Chestnut on its descent down to Commonwealth Ave, it takes a decidedly EES direction. When it hits the Carriage Road, it is headed almost directly east. People familiar with this location will note that the Carriage Road is westbound only for drivers, and thus you have a situation where the road is westbound only, but drivers from Prince have to head east - for as much as 90 ft - to get to the opening in the berm, in order to arrive at Commonwealth Ave.

What you have then is a situation where people on the Carriage Road are running or walking eastbound and discover a car following them (until it exits out the berm opening).

An additional problem caused by this extreme angle is that drivers heading down Prince often do not stop at the stop sign before the CR. Where they are supposed to stop is unclear, and drivers are looking straight ahead - which is actually to the left - and not to the right, which is where EB runners are coming from.

Additionally, the width of the berm opening and the intersection opening causes confusion with westbound bicyclists and others, as to what path they are expected to pursue. Should they keep right (and go up Prince?) or head left (and go up the CR)? It’s also very dangerous there for bicyclists, especially the younger bicyclists, because there are no white painted road lines to regulate the direction of WB traffic in this confusing scenario. The red brick home on the right has a Prince St address.

Confusion is also due to the extremely unusual berm opening width -
