Wheeler Rd needs a bike connection from Parker St. bike lanes to Oak Hill and Brown. Students either ride contra-flow on the streets or ride on the sidewalk in the morning. Right now there is a missing section between Parker and the shared-use path that starts in front of the Oak Hill fields, and then another missing section from the Oak Hill bus loop exit over to the Brown bike racks.

Wheeler Rd should also be evaluated for crosswalks, though a new crosswalk would likely need an RRFB due to heavy school traffic. Outside of school hours the neighborhood would benefit from crosswalks.

Roosevelt Rd line markings were recently repainted to tighten the turning radii (with paint), repaint the crosswalk and stop line, and add a double yellow.

There are also trial bumpouts on Wheeler directly in front of Oak Hill Middle School which should be re-evaluated. Seems they’ve been successful.

We need a bumpout solution for this area that doesn’t force cyclists into the travel lane. You can bike through the flex posts currently.

Is a double yellow warranted here? Would it calm traffic further to widen the shoulders and leave out the middle line?

(my comment was about Roosevelt Rd)

Wheeler is a very wide road. Part of it is fully parked, especially during school and weekend mornings, the part near Parker is generally wide and empty. Would painted fog lines on Wheeler to narrow travel lanes to 10ft be helpful? The center double yellow line should likely be repainted also.

The double yellow just goes around the curve starting at Brandeis and was added recently. It seems to help keep cars in their lanes around the curve and I think that part should be kept in place.

However, the road feels too wide where Theodore Rd comes in from both directions (to the south Theodore Rd dead ends, but that dead end junction is quite wide) so there may be some opportunities there to reduce road width. Since this is mill and overlay, maybe even reduce road width by shifting curbs.
