Description / Need

Pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers report that speeds seem high on Brookline St. Additionally the wide street without edge lines makes walking on the sidewalks and cycling feel unsafe because vehicles can be anywhere in the lane. Adding edge lines to narrow the travel lanes may reduce vehicle speeds to the speed limit and may keep vehicles further from the sidewalk making walking more appealing. They also will give some space to the cyclists who would like to use then as bike lanes. Ideally paint the edge line such that it can eventually become bike lanes. With an elementary school on Brookline St. and two secondary schools so close that those in this area do not qualify for a school bus, it makes sense to make Brookline St. more welcoming to young pedestrians and cyclists.
