Studies have shown that the 5mph reduction in speed limits in Massachusetts in 2017 changed driver behavior, particularly for the fastest drivers. The effectiveness of this change was in some doubt at the time of enactment, since the change in speed limit was not necessarily accompanied by increased enforcement or improvements in engineering.
